Uniforms are Not in Schools – At Least They Shouldn’t Be

Uniforms are Not in Schools – At Least They Shouldn’t Be By Bella           Many schools like their students to wear uniforms. However, are uniforms the answer for all schools? No, uniforms are not the answer. Today surveyed 17,000 people ages eighteen through sixty-four, asking them what they thought about dress codes. Fifty-one percent think their school uniform makes them feel uncomfortably hot or cold. Thirty-three percent think their school uniform forces them to spend more money on uniforms. Additionally, twenty-nine percent think uniforms limit their comfort and make them feel less productive. Twenty-two percent think school uniforms limit freedom to express themselves, and thirteen percent think school uniforms target their gender in unfair ways (Murray). Students should not have to wear school uniforms because uniforms hinder freedom of expression, are too expensive, and cause students to suffer mentally.      Students sh...

Too Much Homework: A Curse to Independent Thinking, Hobbies, and Sleep

Too Much Homework: A Curse to Independent Thinking, Hobbies, and Sleep By Ammie Grade 5      Is extra homework a benefit or a hindrance to student learning? Giving students lots of homework seems like a great idea. It seems like it can improve the learning of a student, and it seems like it lets a student know learning is much more important than playing. But actually, giving students lots of homework is not a good idea. It hurts student’s learning. It shows the students homework, not learning, is more important than anything else. Students shouldn’t have too much homework because students will have less time to think in their own way, it doesn’t let students work on their hobbies, and it prevents students from getting the sleep they need.      First, when students are doing too much homework, they are not thinking in their own way, but only mindlessly doing what the teacher said. “Many students said…they often did homework they saw as ‘pointless’ or ‘mindl...

Niagara Falls: Annie Edson Taylor - Ian

Niagara Falls: Annie Edson Taylor by Ian           Niagara Falls, a beautiful area with lots of waterfalls. It's a tourist attraction due to its beauty, but it also serves as a place to pull off all sorts of stunts. An example is jumping off the Niagara Falls in a barrel. Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to do this and live.           Anne had no immediate family because her child died at birth and her husband died soon after. She was one of those people that bad luck picks on. She was an etiquette and dance instructor until she had the idea to become a stunt daredevil. She was in her 60s when she had the idea to jump off the falls in a barrel. She falsely claimed she was in her 40s to the reporters. Before her plunge she tested her barrel with a cat that lived. As a child she was not interested in dolls; she preferred adventure (McKinley, 2019). This may have been one of the things that influenced her to make the jump o...

Research Reports (6-8 Writing)

What Is a Research Report? © Thoughtful Learning 2016 A  research report  involves a deep exploration of a topic. Like an explorer, a researcher must seek out new things. But instead of searching new lands, researchers search books, articles, Web sites, and other sources to discover information about a topic. Then they share the most important parts of what they find in a written report. When you write a research report, you must do two things: (1) learn as much as you can about a specific topic by reading, observing, reflecting, asking questions, and so on, and (2) share this information in a clear, organized paper. Your mission in this unit is to develop a research report about an important person from history, science, or math. You'll want to make sure your topic is someone who truly interests you, because you will spend a lot of time learning about this person. Select a Topic For your report, you will research an important person from the past or present. As you con...
