Elizabeth - Biking for Exercise (Advertisement Essay 6-8)

 Biking for Exercise

I think biking is one of the best ways to exercise .Imagine this, you get home from school and go straight to your room to play video games on your PlayStation, then your mother comes in and tells you to go outside and get some exercise. You walk outside and search for something to do, you don’t feel like going on a walk and you don’t feel like running. What’s the next best thing? Biking! This may be surprising but biking benefits your mental, physical, and emotional health!

Cycling is a good way to control or reduce weight. It raises your metabolic rate, builds muscle, and burns body fat. Research suggests you should be burning at least 8,400 kilojoules (about 2,000 calories) a week through exercise. Kilojoules are a type of weight system. If you cycle twice a day, the kilojoules burnt soon add up. British research shows that a half-hour bike ride every day will burn nearly five kilograms of fat over a year!

Biking is also super great exercise! You'll burn about 400 calories an hour. Plus it strengthens your lower body, including your legs, hips, and glutes. Biking improves strength, balance and coordination. It may also help to prevent falls and fractures. Riding a bike is an ideal form of exercise if you have osteoarthritis, because it is a low-impact exercise that places little stress on joints.

Believe it or not but biking can actually help your mental health! Cycling pumps blood around your body at a greater rate which allows for the rapid spread of endorphins and other good hormones like dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Biking can help reduce the amount of stress you have from working, or doing something frustrating. Regular bike rides can help out with depression and help people cope with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that people have visual and auditory hallucinations .Most people don’t like going on bike rides because they think that they can get hurt easily, but wearing protective gear will help you not get hurt. In fact according to , most fatal accidents in biking are caused from people not paying attention to their surroundings and not wearing protective gear

I think everyone should go on bike rides. Yes, people do get injured on bikes, I know from my own experience, but according to kidshealth.org , most fatal accidents in biking are caused by people not paying attention to their surroundings and not wearing protective gear. So go outside, hop on your bike, and get some exercise.
